Kathleen Battle is, by many accounts, one of the finest lyric sopranos currently performing.  Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, Ms. Battle attended the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and made her Metropolitan Opera debut in Wagner's Tannhäuser. 

Ms. Battle has recorded many CDs, including works with luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis (trumpet) and tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

A five-time Grammy Award winner, Ms. Battle has issued many chart-topping albums.  Her 1997 album Grace -- a collection of sacred arias and songs -- immediately rose to the top of the Billboard Classical Music chart upon its release.
