Jean Shinoda Bolen

Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D., is a psychiatrist and Jungian analyst. A Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California Medical Center, Dr. Bolen is an internationally known teacher who links archetypal and spiritual realms with social, political, and ecological concerns. She has two children and lives in Mill Valley, California.

Crossing to Avalon

Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen's spiritual autobiography, Crossing to Avalon (review or buy), is the story of a call to adventure, the mystery of the feminine, and the pilgrimage that marked her midlife passage.  Dr. Bolen frames her search for meaning at midlife as a quest for the mysterious lost Grail of the Arthurian legend.  For her, the Grail represents the elusive object of a lifelong search for what is missing from our lives.

Gods in Everyman

Building on her classic Godesses in Everywoman, Dr. Bolen now explores the inner patterns -- or archetypes -- that shape men's personalities, careers, and personal relationships.  Gods in Everyman (review or buy) uses the Greek gods as cultural images of the various male archetypes.  In her book, Dr. Bolen reveals how men can align their outer roles with their inner dispositions, thereby creating a greater sense of authenticity and self-acceptance.
