Robert A. Johnson
Robert A. Johnson is a gifted psychologist in the Jungian tradition. His books, including He: Understanding Masculine Psychology, She: Understanding Feminine Psychology, and We: Understanding the Psychology of Romantic Love are classics in the field of Jungian psychology. In We: Understanding the Psychology of Romantic Love (review or buy), as in many of his books, Mr. Johnson draws on myths to explore the psychological underpinnings of romantic love. Beginning with the classic myth of Tristan and Iseult, Mr. Johnson delves into the romantic love relationship. Is romantic love all that we make it up to be? In this book, Mr. Johnson offers excellent insights about the role of the psyche in creating an ideal romantic picture. In this popular book, Mr. Johnson explores our need to "own our own shadow" -- the term Jung used to describe the dark, hidden aspect of the ego or persona. Owning Your Own Shadow (review or buy) guides the reader through an exploration of the shadow: what it is, how it originates, and how it is formed through the process of acculturation. Mr. Johnson sees the "owning" of one's shadow as a religious process, a means by which wholeness is restored.
